Your days of bikinis and ‘flat abs’ may seem like they are long gone, but fortunately, you can return to loving your body shape.  Many women experience abdominal wall muscle weakening during pregnancy or prior weight gain.  Weight gain during pregnancy is also a frustrating side effect of pregnancy which adds to additional stretching in the abdominal region.  When abdominal and pelvic muscles and tissue are stretched in excess, it is nearly impossible for the muscles and skin to regain original tone and tightness. Additionally, for both men and women who have lost significant weight, disappointment can develop when their abdomen is hidden behind loose skin that has lost elasticity.  Dr. Ortiz specializes in Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck).  His surgical technique will give you a natural looking, beautiful abdomen.

Dr. Ortiz has remarkable results with abdominoplasty surgery. Because Dr. Ortiz combines his vast understanding of anatomy with his artistic surgical technique, he sculpts tissue and repairs the muscles into an aesthetically proportionate abdomen.  Dr. Ortiz encourages you to call or schedule a consultation to learn how this procedure can give you the body you have been missing.

What is Abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty, or “tummy tuck,” is a cosmetic surgery procedure used to repair abdominal muscles and make the abdomen more firm. During abdominoplasty, excess skin, stretch marks and fat from the lower and middle abdomen are reduced, allowing the muscle and fascia of the abdominal wall to tighten while reducing the overall circumference of the mid-section.

Standard vs. Mini Abdominoplasty

Dr. Ortiz will help you determine whether you need a standard or mini abdominoplasty. A mini abdominoplasty is exactly as its name suggests: a less invasive procedure that removes less amount of tissue but yields excellent results for the right patient. If you have only minor pouching and muscle separation below the belly button, the mini could be your best option. However, if you are dealing with muscle separation both above and below the belly button and have a significant amount of loose skin, the standard will likely be necessary to see the best results.

*Individual results may vary.

Are You a Candidate?

Men and women alike can benefit from a smoother, firmer abdominal profile. If you’ve experienced weight loss and are struggling with excess skin, abdominoplasty – standard or mini - might be the procedure you need to get your body bathing-suit ready.

It is important to note, abdominoplasty is not a weight-loss solution. If you are hoping to reduce weight, you should explore other options like diet, exercise or physician supervised weight loss.  Dr. Ortiz can guide you to the best solution to address your concerns.

Male Abdominoplasty

Men are genetically predisposed to gain weight in their waistlines, and sometimes it feels like no amount of dieting or exercise is working. For some men, liposuction in the abdominal area can help reconnect them with more defined looking abs.

What to Expect

Prior to surgery, you’ll meet with Dr. Ortiz to determine a surgical plan that’s right for you. On the day of surgery, expect to be at our office for a total of 4-6 hours. The surgery involves a lower abdominal and periumbilical (around the belly button) incisions and will require 1-2 hours of recovery time in-office. Since this surgery involves the abdominal muscles, expect a 10-14 day recovery period. During this time, you can expect to experience some abdominal pain and discomfort that will progressively improve during the first 5-10 days. You may have some drain tubes to collect excess fluid and will have to refrain from physical fitness for a period of 6 weeks. This may seem like a long time but you want to give yourself ample time for healing to have a lifetime of excellence results.
