FAT TRANSFER/FAT GRAFTING
Using your body's unwanted fat to plump up aging skin and create a beautifully contoured body seems too good to be true. Fortunately, this technique has been used for many years. New technology combined with Dr. Ortiz's surgical skill and attention to detail allow him to masterfully create the symmetry and fullness you desire, whether you wish to have transfer/grafting on your breasts, buttocks, hands or face.
Fat transfer is a minimally invasive and safe procedure where Dr. Ortiz will reduce unwanted fat from your body via gentle liposuction and/or needle extraction. The fat is then injected into the desired area to create volume and shape. In most instances, this procedure does not require an incision. Fat grafting is a more natural option for adding fullness and shape and is beneficial for both cosmetic and reconstructive purposes. Since the fat is harvested from the patient's body, there is less chance the body will reject it, giving you lasting results.
Many women seeking a modest increase in breast size are ideal candidates for fat transfer augmentation, as it requires minimal recovery time and delivers natural looking results. Fat grafting is an excellent option for reconstruction of the breasts for women who have undergone a mastectomy. After unwanted fat is removed, it is processed and then blended into the existing breast tissue via tiny incisions all over the breast.
Add contour and shape to the buttocks by reducing fat from the waistline or hip area and injecting it into the butt, using tiny incisions all over the buttocks. After undergoing a fat transfer to this region, sitting for extended amounts of time will be limited for approximately two weeks, as sitting can damage the new fat and cause it to lose its shape.
Over time, we lose youthful volume in our faces, which results in skin that thins and appears to sag. Fat grafting is a great option for those who wish to improve the sunken-in areas under the eyes, fill in lines and wrinkles, add fullness to the jawline or cheeks, or reduce the "tired" look that can come with age. Fat transfer is often used in combination with a surgical cosmetic procedure such as a facelift or eyelid surgery. After the procedure, your mirror will reveal a more youthful appearance and healthier skin.
Anyone considering body fat transfer must have adequate adipose tissue deposits elsewhere on the body, usually in the abdominal region or in the hips or thighs. Most people who seek fat transfer are unhappy with an uneven distribution of fat and wish to find balance and symmetry through this more natural procedure.
What to Expect
Dr. Ortiz will use “twilight sedation” so that you will be in a semi-conscious state for this procedure. Liposuction will first be performed at the donor site, and the fat will then be processed and purified. Dr. Ortiz will then inject the fat into the desired location, carefully injecting small amounts at a time. Expect to have bandages removed two to three days post-surgery. Depending on the sites involved in the fat grafting, Dr. Ortiz will give you specific postoperative instructions so that you can properly manage and care for both the donor and recipient sites.
